Daniel “Danny” Swiger joined WVU as an Investigator in July of 2017. Danny conducts investigations in response to complaints made to the Office of Equity Assurance and the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities concerning reported violations of Board of Governor’s Rule 1.6. Danny strives to conduct professional and equitable investigations to have a positive impact on the entire West Virginia University Community.
Danny earned an Associate Degree in Police Science from Marshal University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Fairmont State College. Danny is a graduate of the 40th Cadet Class of the West Virginia State Police Academy and a Graduate of the 205th Session of the FBI National Academy.
Before joining WVU, Danny spent 25 years as a Trooper with the West Virginia State Police serving the citizens of West Virginia. While in the State Police, Danny was assigned as a specialist investigating cold case homicides, sexual assaults, and child sexual exploitation. His investigations resulted in multiple convictions in both State and Federal Court. As a part of his investigative duties, Danny received a special deputation with the United States Marshal Service and was assigned as a part of the FBI Violent Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Danny rose to the Rank of First Lieutenant and was appointed Director of the elite Crimes Against Children Unit, which was his last duty station prior to his retirement from the State Police in July of 2017.
